Hosting an Evangelism Workshop

Every evangelical church would readily agree that God wants believers to spread the Gospel far and wide. And yet how many evangelical churches preach the Gospel clearly or equip believers for the task of evangelism and follow-up? 

And may I say to my fellow pastors and Bible teachers, while we may have the divine mandate “preach the Word” (2 Tim. 4:2) resonating in our minds, which is the top pastoral priority, how many of us are taking seriously another mandate from the Lord for the pastor just three verses later, “do the work of an evangelist”? 

I personally believe that many believers in Christ would like to witness the Gospel to the lost, but they are reluctant or hesitant as they have never been trained/equipped to do so. But God has spoken and He did not stutter when Paul wrote:

How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher? (Romans 10:14)

Yet my heart is encouraged as I observe not only Bible churches clearing up their Gospel presentations, but also not being content with merely knowing a clear Gospel but going on to intentionally equip the saints to proclaim it in a clear and simple manner. This equipping for evangelism has been an emphasis in the two churches I have been  privileged to pastor (Duluth Bible Church, MN and Grace and Truth Bible Church, GA) while still feeding the saints sound biblical grace teaching for their spiritual growth from the pulpit. It need not be an either-or proposition between an evangelstic emphasis toward the lost and edification for the saved but a both-and reality. I largely learned this by hearing my pastor and father-in-law teach this over the pulpit and also model it in his life and ministry.

Since my retirement from pastoral ministry in February 2026, I am traveling about once a month to teach at a Bible Conference somewhere in the USA. In some cases, I am also combining the conference teaching with an Effective Evangelism Workshop.
